Did you know that a majority of oral health issues can be prevented by good oral hygiene? At Aberdeen Dental Group, we believe in helping our families prevent problems and pain by promoting good oral health habits. Here’s how:
- First of all, we offer cleanings. Of course, right? What goes into a cleaning, though? Well, the purpose of a cleaning is to help prevent problems or catch them super early, so they’re easier and less expensive to fix, so we take our time providing a thorough oral examination to identify any trouble spots. For your oral exam, your dentist will visually and clinically check the health of your teeth and gums while also screening you for oral cancer. He or she may recommend x-rays, which provide a lot of detail and help your dentist find cavities and check the health of each tooth. Because each patient is unique and requires an individualized health plan, your medical and dental history will be reviewed and your mouth examined before we recommend taking X-rays of your teeth. After completing an examination of your teeth and gums, we will perform a thorough cleaning!
- We provide fluoride treatments. Fluoride is a mineral that helps teeth resist the acid caused by sugars and by germs that are in plaque, a film that collects on teeth. Fluoride treatments help keep cavities away. How does that work? A concentrated fluoride paste, gel, foam, or varnish is applied to the surfaces of your teeth and allowed to sit for a few minutes. The fluoride coats the teeth, repairs early microscopic cavities, and reinforces the healthy enamel. We offer fluoride treatments for adults and children!
- Another way to protect against tooth decay is with sealants. Sealants are thin coatings applied to the chewing surfaces and are designed to prevent the intrusion of bacteria and other debris into the deep crevices on the tops of your teeth. If your family has a history of weak teeth, sealants might be a great preventative measure for you or your children.
